Job description/responsibilities:
We are a local home bakery specializing in custom designed cakes for all occasions. We are a growing company looking for a motivated individual who is open to learning all steps of creating a custom cake from baking to fondant decorations. Our mission is to provide the best experience possible to our clients to make their special events memorable! As a bakery assistant, you will be responsible for maintaining all equipment in your work area including but not limited to: ovens, microwaves, stove tops, etc., along with preparing cake mixes and icings. You must have excellent communication skills as well as strong organizational skills which allow you to focus and achieve optimal productivity. This is a great part-time job for someone who has weekly time restraints or needs a flexible schedule (student/parent/another job). This is a home-based bakery, and thus, we have the ability to be flexible with your schedule!
Duties:
The bakery assistant is responsible for the daily operations of a bakery and will be responsible to ensure that all products are prepared in accordance with company standards. This includes baking cakes, cleaning equipment, filling pans, mixing ingredients into mixers, and making buttercreams and fillings.
Detailed job duties include:
Prepare and bake cakes for custom orders. Prepare buttercream and fillings for custom orders.
Maintain cleanliness standards throughout the bakery, including but not limited to: cleaning countertops, shelves, oven, stove, microwave, equipment, etc; mopping and sweeping floors, washing dishes.
Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor or manager; job description may be modified at any time and/or changed to meet business needs. Other tasks may include coloring fondant, working on small fondant decorations, and other small prep work for weekly orders.
Additional duties may include sorting/filling/icing cakes and some fondant work. These skills are highly desired, but not required.
Job Requirements:
Must be able to lift 25 pounds
Must have basic bakery skills such as baking, mixing, scaling, simple decorating, and knowledge of bakery equipment
Strong organizational skills
Able to perform basic math functions
Possession of good judgment is essential
Professional appearance
This position requires frequent walking, standing, sitting, and reaching
Must have Food Handler’s Card (Company will cover the cost to get certified)
Professional references are required
The ability to torte/fill/ice cakes is a plus
Experience working with fondant is a plus
One year of kitchen experience preferred
Must have reliable transportation

Expected hours per week 16 - 30 hrs/week, depending on experience and ability
The number of hours will depend on the ability to perform the listed job qualifications.
Required work shifts are on Tuesdays/Wednesdays. Additional shifts are also available Monday through Friday. This is a home-based bakery and thus our ability to be flexible around your work/school schedules is possible.
No nights, weekends, or holidays.
